The article presents the results of the review of modern literature data on ultrasound diagnosis of fetal intrauterine growth restriction. Contemporary ideas about intrauterine growth restriction are also reviewed. Ultrasound biometry of the fetus is the
cornerstone to detect its growth disorders. Most researchers believe that 36 weeks or later is the most effective time frame for ultrasound measurements, and that abdominal circumference and estimated fetal weight, along with gestational age, are the best predictors of newborn body mass index. Several ultrasound markers have been shown to predict intrauterine growth restriction, including uterine artery Doppler, placental morphology, and placental volumes. The effectiveness of the screening test was reviewed.
