Pelvic organ prolapse is a common condition among women and requires appropriate treatment. However, diagnosis may be delayed for various reasons. Lifestyle recommendations for daily living in primary care include healthy lifestyle choices, avoiding weight gain, avoiding heavy lifting, managing constipation, and exercising the pelvic floor muscles (Kegel exercises). Patients who complain of persistent symptoms and discomfort should be offered a wide range of treatment options (nonoperative and surgical) to improve quality of life.
